One Month

Ellie Mae is one month old (a few days ago). Time has flown! She has been through a lot in her first month of life!   We love her so much and are so grateful to have her in our family.

She is extremely swollen from her last surgery and due to the fact that she can't move at all. She has been in the same spot for over two weeks now :(

Today she was so alert and is now able to focus on our faces. I swear she is even giving me a ton of little smiles even though she has a big tube in her mouth.

Little Successes

We like to celebrate Ellie's little successes every day and look for positive things. Ellie has been on a paralytic since her surgery and they finally took her off Friday. It had been a whole week since I had seen her move or open her eyes. A little while after they stopped the paralytic, we started seeing her toes wiggle. We were so excited. We kept tickling her feet and trying to get her to move. It was the best feeling in the world to see her wiggling again.

On Saturday she started opening her eyes again too. I was so excited. She is still very sedated and on morphine, so she seems quite out of it, but it does this momma good to see her little girl awake. She looks stronger to us everyday, but we know we still have a long road ahead.

Ellie is still intubated and wont be able to be moved or picked up for a couple more weeks. Right now they are planning for August 8th to put in a gastric feeding tube and to look at her repair to see if she is ready for another surgery.

We love our Miss Ellie so much and know Heavenly Father and angels are watching over her all the time. We have been blessed with so many little tender mercies. This little girl is teaching us so many lessons.

Mother

Today we took my mom to the airport and said goodbye. It was hard. She has been a huge help and blessing to us made so many sacrifices for us at this time. We have had an empty feeling all day without her.

It was hard to watch her say goodbye to Ellie last night. She sang to her everyday and I already can tell Ellie loves her Grandma Polly so much. My mom made life a lot easier for us these past weeks. She did our laundry, cooked and kept our apartment clean so pretty much the only thing I have had to worry about is getting myself ready for the day.

Aside from all the things she did for us, the best was just having her here with us. There is nothing like having your mom to comfort you, and I think all of my sisters would agree that there is nothing like having OUR mom there for you. I will be forever grateful for all that she has done. She is my angel mother.

Please continue to pray for Ellie and for us at this time as we are struggling. Thank you.

Ellie Mae Ruelas

Just wanted to share some more pictures with family and friends besides cell phone pictures :)

My water broke on Tuesday night, the 26th at about 11:45 pm.

Me during the long wait of labor

She was finally born on June 28th, around 3 am. She weighed in at 5 lbs 3.9 oz and was 18 1/4 inches long. Not too bad for being 5 weeks early! I only got to hold her for about 3 seconds before the NICU doctors took her. Ismael went with them and took these pictures to bring back to me so I could see.

I had to wait for about two and a half hours for my epidural to wear off before I could go and see her. This is my first time getting a good look at her.

First time I got to hold her- June 29th- the best feeling in the world! The nurse was so nice to let me for a minute. We still won't be able to hold her for a few more days.

 Yep- looks like her dad!!

I will get up more details later- right now we are too busy soaking up time with her and going back and forth to the hospital. It will be a couple more weeks before she is out. Thank you for all of your prayers. We really appreciate it and feel everyone's love. I wish all of you could meet her- believe it or not, she is even cuter in person!
